About Marti

Marti Roach MSW, CTF, is an experienced, certified facilitator and trainer. She brings a love of learning, openness to new experience and a lifelong commitment to progressive social change to her work.

Career Development

Marti’s career began as a community organizer/researcher, leading to a focus on fund raising, planning and development. She worked as a consultant to many organizations including: Alameda County Suicide Prevention, Filipinos for Affirmative Action, Omega Boys Club, San Mateo County, San Francisco State University Community Involvement Center, Center for Elder’s Independence and San Francisco Aging and Adult Services. She also served as the Development Director for Bay Area Community Resources (BACR) for over 15 years, helping the organization grow from a budget of $350,000 to over $12M and providing strategy and organization development support.

Facilitating, training and team & leadership consulting

Exposed early in her career to the emerging field of facilitation enabled Marti to incorporate participatory values and practices in all her work. Discovering the internationally recognized ToP (Technology of Participation) Facilitation methods in the 90’s led to Marti’s current professional work: using group facilitation as a primary approach to help organizations and communities.

Marti is a Mentor Trainer of ToP methodologies and a ToP Certified Facilitator. She incorporates a a variety of other facilitation and innovation approaches in her work to respond to varied needs. These include world cafe, open space, appreciative inquiry, learning organization, Theory U, design thinking and visual thinking.

Service and Social Change

Marti has served as a volunteer, movement activist and board member throughout her career. She currently works with various efforts focusing on mitigating global warming, including work with the Citizens Climate Lobby, 350.org, Climate Reality Project and the League of Women Voters. Marti also continues her work as a board member of Crabgrass, a small non-profit supporting women in developing countries. She is active in the ToP Network, a national network of ToP facilitation practitioners.

Marti lives in Moraga with her husband Dennis Romano and has two adult children and a grand-dog.
